Miss Priss Monday, A New Release, and a New Cover

There’s snow on the ground this morning. The first of the season. Which is sad because it was so absolutely gorgeous yesterday. Pup and I spent a good part of the day sitting outside enjoying the day while I read and she rubbed her nose in the grass.

Once the snow falls she still wants to be outside and I want to be comfy and cozy inside. This is not from today, but here she is enjoying the snow:

Miss Priss Enjoying the Snow

She’d sit there like that all day if I’d stay outside with her…

Unfortunately for her, I won’t. Love her, but love warm toes more.

I’m also happy to announce that the last non-fiction title I was working on is now live in ebook: ACX for Beginners. This is for anyone thinking about putting their book into audio through ACX. It does also cover more general topics like pros/cons of going into audio, what you can make from it, what to look for in a narrator, and how to review audio files once submitted.

ACX-For-Beginners-Generic

Of the presentations I gave at RMFW this year, the one on ACX was the one that had the most people coming up to me later to say they really enjoyed it and found value in it. I’d meant to have this book completed by the conference but got distracted writing those Excel guides. (And good thing I did…I’m loving that StoryBundle experience.)

And, finally. Last week I joked that maybe I needed to change up the cover on You Have a Date since it didn’t have a half-naked woman on it, so I did. Here are the old and new covers:

I do think the new cover is more effective if a little harder to read. We’ll see. Since most of Douchebag’s sales are in audio, I won’t really know if this works until the audio cover is up. That could take a couple weeks. (I did also turn on an old AMS ad on the book, so I might see some ebook or print sales off of that, but not sure the ad is still moving. And the next time I tried for an AMS ad on this book they rejected it because of the book’s title so that’s the only ad I can run on it.)

One of the nice things about doing your own covers is that you can do something like this in less than a day and for just the cost of the image. (I already had it, but I downloaded a new copy just to be kosher. It cost me 50 cents because of that AppSumo deal I mentioned recently.)

So that’s me. Still need to do the paperback version of the ACX book and then it’s time for fiction. FINALLY! I didn’t expect to take such a long break from novels, but I think it was worth it.

Miss Priss Monday (and a Depositphotos deal)

First the deal so you don’t have to suffer through puppy photos if you don’t want to. Appsumo is currently running a deal where you can pay $49 to get 100 credits from Depositphotos. It’s a great deal and the credits don’t expire which is better than the monthly plans I’ve paid for before. (Scroll down to actually see the deal terms.)

This is nice for people who do their own covers, but also if you want to use photos on your blog and not get in trouble for using a photo you don’t have the rights to.

And now, Miss Priss photos. (I’ve been neglecting this the last couple weeks.)

First, a weird one:

Foot above the couch

Hard to tell what’s going on here, but that’s the pup’s foot jutting up above the edge of the couch. Which means that on the other side of the couch she was fast asleep on her back with her legs thrust up into the air. You wouldn’t think that was comfortable but it must be because she does it often enough.

Second, here she is keeping me company while I work:

My Office Companion

As you can maybe tell by now, she likes to sleep in weird positions.

And, finally, here she is in the “library.” I’m just including this one because I like how it all fits together. (Couches courtesy of my brother, center pillow and panda latchhook courtesy of my mother. If I got rid of everything in my house that someone else had given me I’d have a lot of books but not much else.)

So there you have it. Happy start to your week. Here it’s rainy and fall-like which I happen to love. Good weather for working.

Miss Priss Mondays (and an AMS Ads for Authors Note)

It’s been one of those days. While dealing with something that required the use of copious amounts of  bleach, I dropped my phone in said bleach, so then had to run it under water to get the bleach off before it did any damage. Now my phone is soaking in rice while it hopefully dries out so it can start working again.

If it does die it’s not the end of the world. I have an iPhone so small that people comment on it, that’s how old it is. But I really didn’t need to buy a new phone right now, so fingers-crossed water and rice save it from the bleach.

In the meantime, have a puppy who really didn’t want to leave the dog park. This was at Glencarlyn in DC where they had a great river for the dogs to swim in.

Sad Faced Pup

And, two quick announcements. AMS Ads for Authors is now available on pretty much every retailer except Google. (If someone really wants me to put it on Google I can, I just don’t seem to sell non-fiction on there and don’t particularly like their preview options, especially when it comes to non-fiction.)

Also, the Rider’s series is rolling out of KU this week. If anyone was in the midst of reading those books through KU, be sure to borrow them before September 8th. You don’t have to read them before then, just borrow them. So, fair warning.

Miss Priss Monday

It’s Monday so time to share some puppy love to get the week started off right.

Here’s the pup at the unholy hour of seven a.m ready to play. (Her version of playing is to run around inside for five minutes like she’s insane until I finally go outside with her at which point she lays down in the grass and refuses to move.  But if I try to go inside she does the whole thing over again, so I usually bring a book along to entertain myself while I keep her company outside.)

Miss Priss in the Morning

And today it seems is one of the rare summer days when she’ll deign to keep me company while I work.  (In the summer she rarely sets foot in my office, but in the winter she spends most of the day curled up on her bed while I work.) Nothing like writing with the sound of a snoring dog in the background…

Miss Priss in the Office

And can I just add that it’s hard to take a good picture of an all-black dog?

Anyway.  Mondays don’t really count as the first day of the workweek for me since I do something writing-related every single day of the week, but I do still think of it that way.  So another week, another project.

Miss Priss Monday with Bonus Shadow Photos

First, just in time for August to start, I got my new customized Demotivators calendar. Because being reminded about the parts of the corporate world I didn’t like is my way of trying to stay motivated with this whole writing thing. Month 1 reminds me how uncomfortable it was to be a square peg in a world of round holes.

Here’s to a productive month!

And now for some cute photos of the pup and her “uncle” Shadow.

Yesterday we had a surprise visit up the mountain to babysit the crazy puppy (he’s only eight-months-old) because there was an accident on the highway that basically shut it down for hours. My parents were stuck for over three hours on what should’ve been a thirty minute drive. So pup and I drove past them on the good side of the highway to go hang with Shadow until they could get home.

Here he was in February, the first time he and Miss Priss met. A cute little ball of fur.

And here he is now, looming over her while she tries to hide in the kiddie pool. He is going to be HUGE. Eight months and they already weigh the same and he’s taller than her. Yikes. (And can I just mention how hard it is to take pictures of black dogs. Especially two of them.)

Miss Priss Monday (And A New Release)

So, first, the part that matters. A couple cute pup photos to kick off the week the right way.

This is one of my favorites of the pup from when she was little:

Miss Priss and her water bowl

And this is one from our recent adventure in Angel Fire, NM for Taos Toolbox 2017.  I’m not sure it was the best idea to take the pup along (although I wouldn’t have gone if I couldn’t have brought her along), but it definitely kept me in shape.  Pup insisted on hour-long hikes every day up and down the mountains. On this one she decided she needed to bring along her toy, too.

Because, you know, we all need our pink stuffed pig to keep us company when walking through the woods.

In other news, I just published CreateSpace for Beginners. I should be writing the next novel (because that’s where the bulk of my income is and if I want to keep doing this it would be wise to focus there), but…

I’m presenting at the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers conference this year.  One of the presentations on common new writer mistakes draws from a book I already wrote.  (The just re-titled Writing for Beginners.)  But the other two, one on using ACX for audiobooks and one on formatting paperbacks using CreateSpace, were new content.  And, me being me, I decided it couldn’t take all that much more effort to turn them into books.

Ha!

The CreateSpace presentation is about an hour, but the book is probably three times as much content.  Probably be the same story with the ACX book which means a couple more weeks before I get started on the next novel.

Ah well.  Still not sure what I want to write next anyway.  I may hate writing series but the thing I will say for it is at least you know what you have to write next…
